OESPA Members:

Update – March 17, 2020 8:34PM

A little while ago OCPS sent out communication that both 10 and 12 month OCPS employees are to report to work on Monday, March 23, 2020, OESPA has issued a Demand to Bargain as we believe this is in violation of Governor DeSantis’ executive order issued today. We will keep you updated as more information becomes available.

MESSAGE FROM OESPA PRESIDENT RON POLLARD REGARDING TEMPORARY SCHOOL CLOSINGS

OESPA Members:

We understand that the spread of the Coronavirus has caused uncertainty. We are here to tell you what we know, and what we’re fighting for.

THE FACTS

-Orange County Public Schools (at the direction of the Florida Department of Education) will be closed for an additional week immediately following the previously scheduled Spring Break. Schools are scheduled to re-open on Monday, March 30, 2020.

-Twelve month employees are not impacted and should still report to work as scheduled on Monday, March 23, 2020.

-OESPA remains in contact with the district regarding the implication of this closure on our members.

THE FIGHT

-OESPA, in conjunction with our state union, is pushing the Florida Department of Education to reduce the required student contact days to 156. This will not require any makeup days.

-OESPA will continue to fight for classified employees to receive pay despite the temporary school closure.

Please know that we will get through this together as a united group and that OESPA leadership and staff are here for our members.

In solidarity,

Ronald Pollard
